Top Business Class Airfare Deals – Cheap Flights Between UK …
The business class flight sector has recently been in the spotlight with the emergence of 4 ‘all-business’ class airlines (and the subsequent bankruptcies of 3 of those airlines) and the start of the Open Skies agreement between the EU and the USA. Let’s take a look at how you could significantly reduce your business class airfare from the US to Europe:
There is currently only one all-business class airline flying transatlantic: L’Avion. This French start-up flies 12-times-a-week from Paris Orly to New York Newark using a Boeing 757-200 aircraft configured with 90 seats (48" seat pitch, 140 degrees of recline). Prices are available from around $1,550 return from NY and EUR1,180 from Paris, all-in.
L’Avion has a code-share agreement with British Airways’ "OpenSkies", which is BA’s new European based airline. OpenSkies will initially fly a 3-class Boeing 757 from Paris to New York. Some decent prices can be found in business class from around $3,700.
Note that all business carriers MaxJet, EOS Airlines and Silverjet have all recently gone into liquidation. All 3 served the London to New York business route – it is thought that high oil prices and the credit squeeze put them under severe pressure even though they had claimed around one fifth of the premium market.
Gulf heavyweight airline Emirates recently entered the US-European market with a direct flight from Hamburg, Germany to New York – offering some low biz class fares. This is in addition to the usual competitive business class airfares available from some of the more ‘offbeat’ airlines like Air India and Kuwait Airways – both of which have rights to fly between New York and London. Flights on Kuwait Airways in business class can be had from £850 / $1,700 return.
The Open Skies agreement between the EU and US has added capacity particularly from the UK to the US. For example, Air France now flies daily from London Heathrow to Los Angeles. Air France also has some very competitive London to New York fares (via Paris) from under £1,000 / $2,000.
And business class passengers of Lufthansa, Swiss and KLM on certain routes to the US have the option of flying with PrivatAir – an all business class service at the same price as a standard upper class ticket.
We will probably see a balance in airfares this year – more flights should increase competition but the sector will have to deal with oil prices in excess of $100 per barrel, meaning more fuel surcharges.
Happy flying in 2008!
